Yeah Sarge, but it's a Dry Heat...
It's really warm here in London today. And I'm busy working, trying not to melt, and hoping that my PC copes with the temperature as I have lots of work to do.
I remember a few years ago when I built a Athlon 1.2 Ghz machine running Win98 (which was a pretty damn good PC at the time) working through the summer was really hard as the heat kept making it crash. In the end I had to buy even more fans and point a large room fan into the casing to keep it stable enough - I worked from home and really needed some stability.
A couple of months ago I built a new AMD64 3000 machine, which I'm working on right now. It has a large PSU fan that points downwards into the case, an 80mm case fan on the back sucking in, and an 80mm fan blowing out of the side window. There's also a fan on my graphics card.
It's damn hot today here in my place in North London, but so far the machine is behaving rather well. System temp is 43oC and CPU temp is 46oC - a few degrees higher than normal but pretty good. Glad I bought some Arctic Silver when I built the machine though.
I remembers the old Athlon running past 70oC in summer. Now that machine really could get hot.
