When Man Lived With Dinosaurs
Man didn't live alongside dinosaurs did he? Okay, there's that movie with Raquel Welch with dinosaurs in it, but it was more a movie about watching Raquel run around with very little on rather than a scientific document. But then, the Book of Genesis is as just as much a scientific document as One Million Years BC.
But so what? There's more to truth, beauty and revelation than trying to make scientific points.
I don't think for one minute Genesis is trying to provide a scientific explanation of creation, but alas so many people are trying to force it into this role, and its truth of God's love for us is buried under their lies and bad science.
This wouldn't be so bad if these liars weren't trying to peddle their anti-intellectual BS into the minds of kids. But this is just what's happening at Florida's Dinosaur Adventure Park. This is a great themepark where kids can learn that it doesn't take millions of years to make fossils and that man and dinosaur walked the earth together. And it advertises itself as a science theme park. Yes Really.
As I started reading the site I thought that it was really funny. But the more I read, the more it scared me. These people are actually serious about this stuff and they really think that telling these lies to kids is somehow honouring God. It's about as useful to Christianity as that tosspot that hangs about at Oxford Circus with a megaphone telling folks, "You're going to burn in hell, that's what Jesus' love means."
There are more dangerous and more obvious evils in the world than the Dinosaur Adventure Park, but it's organisations like this that are the tip of the iceberg of lies, bad theology, ignorance and stupidity that can cause great harm to the intellectual growth of children and to the secular perception of Christianity. After all, if our faith has to tell such stupid and obvious lies as this how can there be any truth in it at all?
Anyway, don't worry folks. I didn't really sit here writing this at 03:27 this morning. I've just discovered I can set articles to make themselves live at a certain time in the future and am trying it out with this post.
