We've Found Our Drummer

The Magic Heliclopter

One of the great joys of being a parent of a three year old is the mad stream off chatter emerging from them. Granted if you're not in the right mood it can be tiring - our daughter readilly admits "I can't stop talking daddy" - but on the whole it's hugely entertaining hearing the thoughts of bonkers pre-schoolers.

Having twins makes that even more entertaining because you can overhear conversations they have with each other. Take the following for example - I was driving them back from school along the back road, where one often sees military helicopters flying to and from RNAS Yeovilton. I've retained their pronunciation of helicopter and other words.

[Pat] Oooh I've just seen a heliclopter.
[Kitty] Did you Pat?
[Pat] Yes Ditty, it was very fast.
[Kitty] It was an airlaplane.
[Pat] No Ditty, not an airlaplane, it was a heliclopter.
[Kitty] Well I can't see a heliclopter.
[Pat] That's cause it disappeared.
[Kitty] Ooh, was it a magic heliclopter Pat?
[Pat] No Ditty, it just flew away.
---
[Kitty] Daddy why are you laughing?

I just about kept control of the car.

Mixed Emotions

Yesterday was a very a strange one for our family. Full of mixed emotions. On the one hands our little baby will crawled for the first time. We are amazed at his progress and so very proud of him. This has been a hard week for Will - he had a nasty cold over the weekend and cut his first two teeth - not a happy combination. But now the little monkey is mobile and it's both wonderful and rather terrifying - the twins crawled so much later, once they were more aware of their surroundings.

The joy at our children's growing abilities was tempered by a very hurtful correspondence we received in the post. I won't go into details here. But let me put it this way - I've held my tongue for years now while these people hurt those I love. No longer.

A Brief Update

I'm going to try to update more this week. Certainly the tech part of the site is due some reviews - I've promised to write a review of the Vypyr 75 guitar amp and there are some other bits and pieces I want to write for that blog too.

But in personal terms how are things? We're doing well thanks. Baby Will is a little bundle of joy. Though he's started to develop a partiality for mummy, which is lovely, but doesn't help me a great deal when I'm on baby duty. The twins are doing great. Far too naughty and annoying as toddlers their age are, but smart funny and fun too.

The sun is shining and it's a beautiful day in Dorset. I own a Les Paul. Life is good.

Bored? Stick a Pebble Up Your Nose

I Left Pat on the naughty step for two long yesterday. So while he was sat there bored he decided to up the ante of naughtiness. Except it didn't go exactly as planned for him and soon he was crying his head of to us.

The stupid lad had put a little stone up his nose and it had stuck.

Good Weekend?

Did you have a good weekend? Ours was pretty good - the weather seems to have returned to a summer theme here in Dorset. So we were able to get out and about.

The twins haven't always been easy to cope with over the weekend though - we're definitely in the middle of the terrible twos. At times it seems that our placid little baby Will is the best behaved out of the five of us.

Yesterday afternoon I took a drive along the coast between Abbotsbury and Burton Bradstock and some of the photos I took are below. I'd love to go back to these locations at a more photogenic time of day - but having small children does often make that difficult.

Procrastination Post - Sherborne Castle

Yes I know I've been rubbish at updating over the last few weeks. I have some plans for the blog - both this person one and Grumpygamer, I just need to get my arse in gear and get on with them.

In the meantime here are some photos of our afternoon out to Sherborne Castle - after the page jump...

Jo & Will

Catching Up

I'm sure that you're not surprised there's not been much blogging in the last week or so. We've been very busy with the newest addition to our family - little baby Will. Or Baby Woo asd Jo and I continue to call him following Will's big brother's lead.

Last week was tough for all manner of reasons. Firstly there was the obvious addition to our family of a baby. He's pretty easygoing as babies go - sleeping much of the time - but we've had major angst on how to feed him. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth we've settled on a pragmatic rather than dogmatic approach and everyone seems much happier, especially little Will.

Then there are issues of how two toddlers will cope with the little interloper entering their lives. Patrick has been a complete star. His behaviou over the last week has been something to behold, he's fascinated by baby will but also seems to have grown up to fulfil the role of big brother. He's hardly been on the naughty step since Will arrived.

Baby Will Meets the Twins

Today Patrick and Kitty got to meet their new little brother for the first time. Hearing them say "Hello baby" brought a tear to my eye. When they left and Pat waved and said "Bye Bye Baby Woo" (his pronunciation of Will) it was adorable.

William Arthur Neary

William Arthur Neary, originally uploaded by Harry Neary.

This is our beautiful son Will who was born today at 15:25. He weighed 7 lb 13 oz. Mum and baby are doing really well.

Father's Day

I had a lovely day today surrounded by my wife and children. The twins and I spent quite a bit of time this morning seeing how tall a pile of wooden blocks we could build before the epic crash of it falling to earth.

Then we went out and bought Pat at space rocket and Kitty a little toy house. Both loved their new toys, in fact it's all Pat could talk about all the way home from the shops.

And later I cooked roast beef and the four of us sat down together and celebrated what should be called Family Day in future.

Next time we do this there will be five of us. In fact there may be five of us this time next week. To some the idea of having a family is perhaps the dullest thing in the world, the bastion of conformity.

But for those of us in the know, we know that it's the most exciting and rewarding thing in the world.

Goodnight folks. See you tomorrow.
