The Wind of Change
I'm pondering on some changes to the site as a whole at the moment. The Photo Album is a rarely used part of my site, few people visit it, and to be honest I really don't make much use of it. I'm just thinking of removing it. I may actually do that later today. I will be backing up the database and all the files though - so I could easily restore it if I wanted to.
The fact is the Photo Album takes up way too many of the site's resources - considering how little it is used, and I feel I can make better use of the SQL database. Typing this is helping me make my mind up - so it looks like the Photo Album is doomed and I'm going to spend the afternoon removing it.
So what will it be replaced with? Well I'm actually looking to revamp the site as a whole using a content management system. The whole site (except the blog) would then be replaced with a new system that makes it easy for me to add updates. It's quite a large project and I will most likely install the required software on a test subdomain on the site while I develop the new site, before finally replacing the usual Cartmel Bar website frontpage. I hope to retain much of the look and feel of the current http://www.harryneary.com in the new design.
I'm pretty happy with this blog though - but rest assured I'm looking into the issues surrounding security that mean some of you can't see the Captcha image that lets you post comments. I hope to have that solved soon while retaining the blog's protection against comment spam.
UPDATE: Having had a bit of a fiddle and a look at various software I could use for the redesign, I've decided that the best software I have this one. So I'm actually going to set the various pieces of content from the old site using this system. So look to see the songs, stories, poetry and Lancaster reunions on this page in the next few days.
