The Toastie Revolution
If you read a recent entry here, you'd now that the gorgeous L and myself have had some difficulty settling in a church since we moved into our flat in May. The last church we went to, as the linked entry explains, was really something of a joke.
It's a wonderfully pleasant surprise then to find a friendly and welcoming church a mere ten minutes walk from this very location. It's a Methodist church, one that seems quite traditional at first glance. However it's an exceptionally friendly place and we've been made to feel very welcome. It's also a church attended by people of many nationalities and ethnic backgrounds, which provides a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Of course, friendliness isn't really the most important aspect of a church, but it does help. The teaching here is good, it's clearly a place of people with strong faith. but without being a mad fundie nut-house. Yesterday's service looked at the recent London bombings, and there was much talk of love, reconciliation, faith and embracing different cultures.
The rest of the day was rather super too. The incomparably lovely L and myself toddled along to Tesco and invested a mere £5 in a sandwich toaster. I'll let you guess what we've eaten for every meal since then. I for one will not have anything said against the wonder of the chicken, ham & cheese toastie.
Sunday was a great day, especially as L leant her considerable talents to untangling my complicated accounts from the untidy box where they normally reside - inside my head. Yes I tend to keep a running total in my head - which is not a good way of budgeting every week. I've never let anyone close enough to me to get inside my financial affairs. But I trust L completely, and she has done a wonderful job of sorting out all the tangle of figures in my mind into a sensible monthly account. Once more I'm aware of what a lucky bloke I am.
So, all in all, a rather lovely Sunday.
