The Parent Countdown
Well we've been strangely quiet since the honeymoon. Never fear, we're both doing well thanks. Married life is fun, I think we're as close as we've ever been. We've been married over a month now and can you believe that the twins are now almost five months old? The 20 week scan is coming up very soon and the time until the two bundles of joy arrive in our live draws ever closer at a frightening yet exhilarating rate.
As far as baby names goes we haven't decided yet. For a long time we had names we liked but with the reality of becoming parents those seemed to go out of the window. After lots of discussions on the subject we've decided not to talk to other people about it anymore, especially so they don't nick our favourite ideas.
The wedding seems so far away now. All the stress, money and anxiety for just one day. But it was worth it. The day passed me by in a blur, but I'll always remember the moment we stood together in front of our friends and family and made our vows. That was my favourite part of the day.
Today sees the wedding coming back in to our minds though as our brilliant photographer Eddie, is going to bring the proofs over. From these we'll choose the final images that will become a customised photo album. This is the last stage of the whole wedding experience really. Once we've got the finished album the wedding is done.
But there is still so much to be excited about. I am so excited about becoming a father. I often talk to our twins, hoping that they'll hear me and remember my voice when they are born. The miracle of becoming a parent still fills me with awe and as more baby-related items magically appear in our flat (I think L ships them in when I'm not looking) it becomes more and more the home of a family of four. Which is great.
I suppose all that awe might not last my first attempt at changing a nappy. But we'll see. It's certainly been thrilling and moving to see how happy my sister and her husband are with the recent birth of their ultra-cute little son. I spent a happy hour chatting to them via the Xbox Live Vision camera last week and am really looking forward to meeting our nephew in the flesh.
Not all of the last few weeks has been easy. It's been a stressful few weeks as Lanie isn't well enough to go back to work yet - carrying twins is taking so much out of her. But after a few weeks of rather pointless teeth gnashing and hand-wringing we've both come to realise that things are okay and we'll be fine. Keeping a roof over our head isn't as tough as I expected and life goes on. We're happy and well, if not wealthy.
On the whole life is rather good. Our home rings to the sound of laughter much of the time and I hope that's something that has an effect on our little babies. Of course my cheerful demeanour may also be related to this being the month of November. It's my favourite month of the year - it being the month my birthday falls in. And I love my birthday.
