New PC \o/

Recently myself and my missus (hereby and forevermore referred to as S, in keeping with the site tradition) came into some money. It seems the "decision" (if you can call it that) to buy a house with an endowment policy wasn't a good one. It seems the insurance company who holds the policy agreed and so therefore sent us some money.
Quite a lot of money.
And so it was that, at the end of last week, I was treated to being able to spend some money on upgrading my aging PC. I took a look around various e-tailers, found some deals I liked the look of and on Friday placed an order at a well known web-store that's only about 2 miles from my house. I went to collect it that evening (how's that for service?) and after I'd had some tea, started the build.
It was nerve-racking stuff. I've never actually built a whole PC myself (that was all mine, at least) and so I found myself almost permanently clamped to the gas meter, for fear of discharging static of Zeus-like proportions into the precious metals of my new motherboard.
All went pretty well though - I only had one false start where the machine wouldn't power up. Within practically no time I was up and running and playing various demos of games I've missed out on over the last few years.
It's been so nice being able to relax in the home office, put on the headphones and lose myself in worlds of D-Day battles, gritty modern gunfights and calming flights over the Rockies.

What's the spec? Took the leap to an AMD64?
The Half-Life 2 demo ran very well indeed, the Call of Duty demo ran on maximum settings with AA enabled. The graphic card could be better but I'm happy to upgrade later after I've caught up with the 4 years worth of games I've missed out on.
I'm going to Canada in a couple of weeks and so will be picking up a nice joystick (Logitech 3D Force - £15 - a bargain I cannot miss).
The one I built is:
Athlon 64 3000+
512 MB DDR PC3200 RAM
Gigabyte GA-K8NS nForce3 250 Mobo
Silver Tower with 400W PSU
I already had a pretty good graphics card, a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB so I didn't upgrade that.
The system absolutely flies. I need to double the memory though.
It also takes PCI-E or AGP, which I though was a nice touch too - if AGP prices start to drop what with PCI-E taking off then I have a bit of freedom as to what I can buy next for an upgrade.
I always tend to do this, not going for the top end, just hovering a little behind.
I haven't been doing much PC gaming recently and the 9600XT copes very well with everything I throw at it, so it may be a while before the graphics card gets upgraded.
Especially as a I have a diamond to pay for later this year.
