No mention of England losing in H’s blog, but hey it was really only me and him who hit the roof when Ray Houghton knocked in that corker against the Italians in USA 1994 (yes it was an excuse to use the picture, but there is a tenuous link here - and H you'll have to tell me how to make the image local, unless I can't?
Now there I was reading a debate yesterday all about the British public having no opinion unless the press tells them what to think. So in relation to the Rooney sending-off against Portugal, public reaction would be influenced by the press telling everyone that he’s either a) a thug who should have effigies burnt of him and booed at every Premiership match next season, or b) the saviour of English football and should be forgiven for all his indiscretions.
It is all about how you put a slant on the facts that can persuade people to support whatever the current crusade is that you’re trying to launch. Without writing something that follows Noam Chomsky’s theory that the media are a powerful propaganda system, it was interesting to read the following article from The Sun.
Yes it seems that The Sun are quite happy to twist the facts to ensure that the British public believe that the Muslims are ‘at it again’, ‘taking our culture’ and that ‘political correctness has gone mad’, by holding a Muslim only day at Alton Towers. As Mark Twain said "never let the truth get in the way of a good story", so to redress the balance for all those about to cross Alton Towers off their list of venues to visit or torch their nearest Mosque, I am happy to announce that surprise surprise you can actually book Alton Towers for just you and your mates. So Islamic Leisure have booked Alton Towers and to apply for a ticket you have to go through Islamic Leisure, infact if you read hard enough the facts are there, just it doesn’t make much of a headline does it?
