Sleep
I don't sleep much. I've always felt having an early night robbed me of hours where I could be doing things, reading or playing videogames or something. So a pattern was set early on in my teens where I would stay up as late as possible.
In fact in my teens I could stay up without any sleep and go to school feeling no ill effects at all. At uni I managed this for seven days – with less successful results, I went a bit mental.
But these days I still tend to not get enough sleep. I've no excuse really though. I work from home and enjoy a longer lie in than most friends. Yet I just see that as an excuse to be reading until 3am.
Of course, lack of sleep isn't good for your health. And I've certainly become aware recently of how groggy I often feel due to lack of sleep. So last night I did something extraordinary for me, I went to bed before midnight.
Do I feel any better for it? No I feel just as groggy today, mainly due to a succession of weird dreams. The first being (very sadly) about Battlestar Galactica, unfortunately not about soapy erotic goings-on with Grace Park, Tricia Helfer and Katie Sackhoff – no, just being chased around derelict cities by unconvincing CGI centurions.
That dream woke me up. But it being seven in the morning I turned over again. Only to have a worse dream, this time being crucified by John Cleese and his cohort of Roman Soldiers. I'm sure his one-liners were very witty, but I was too busy coping with the horror of being nailed to a fucking cross.
Didn't get much relaxing sleep after all. So I'll probably be nodding off at my desk later, as usual.
