One Ring to Rule Them All
There's one thing that is clear from our trip to Romford's various jewellery stores that we are just scum. The looks we got from the painted faces of the various shop girls when it was clear we had no intention of spending hundreds of pounds would have scarred a child for life.
But let me step back a little and tell you what we were up to. With three days left before the wedding we went out to get our wedding rings. A bit late, you might think, but these hoops of metal really haven't been on our minds. What they symbolise is very important to us, what they are made of is entirely a none-issue.
So we set out to the temple of chav that is Argos, only to find that they didn't have the ring L wanted and they didn't have any of the rings I wanted in my size. There then followed a trek to various other establishments such as Beaverbrooks, Earnest Jones and H Samuel in search of cheapo rings.
I know I've talked a lot about the tight budget for the wedding, but even if we could afford some expensive metal we would still have been looking for inexpensive rings. In the end we drew a blank, H Samuel saying that it would take seven days to get a ring ordered in the correct size.
This doesn't really bode well for company's stores, because as I discovered some hours later, you can order online from the company and have the item you want the next day. And that is what I did. So sat before me right now is my wedding ring, a simple titanium band which arrived in the post this morning. Truth be told it feels a little loose, but one size smaller would have been too tight. Trust me to have a ring finger that doesn't obey strict sizing rules.
So I'm pretty much sorted and ready for the wedding now. Got to go collect my suit tomorrow. But everything else seems tickety-boo. The train tickets for our honeymoon arrived yesterday and I think my beloved L collects her dress this evening.
Update: I've just heard from L via her mobile and she's managed to pick up a wedding ring on her travels today. So that's another problem solved.
