Not a Shrek 3 Review
I can't really be bothered writing a proper review of the movie. Yes, telling readers I don't care is always a good way of starting a blog post isn't it?
Shrek 3 had some great moments and gets a thumbs-up for including a Led Zeppelin track (Immigrant Song) which was hastily followed by Heart's Barracuda.
You ever go and see movies and think that it's been made specifically for you, to send you a message? It's like not going to church for two months then turning up to hear a sermon that could have been written by your psyche.
So there I am watching a movie essentially about being brave enough to take on the role of fatherhood thinking that somebody up there has a great sense of humour (better in fact than the writers of Shrek 3).
As I said, plenty of great moments in the movie but it didn't hang together that well and the plot was paper-thin.
I don't think we actually saw the same movie that everyone else did anyway. For most folks there was a slapstick tale with plenty of fart jokes. I think RJ and I saw a bitter-sweet romantic comedy with plenty of deep comments on adult relationships.
Us over analyse stuff? As if, it's not like we then had a post-movie angsty 30-something conversation in the restaurant afterwards. That would just be silly! We don't do silly, much. Well not lots. Okay, lots, but not to excess!
So anyway, returning to the movie. Good performances all round - but it lacked the bite of the first movie - where the Disney-targeted satire was much sharper. The princesses were pretty funny though - especially the baby shower scene and as you'd expect the animation and design was gorgeous.
So 6/10 for the movie.
And before I go. What is with movie trailers telling you the entire plot these days. We really don't need to go see Evan Almighty now because the entire story - and I do mean entire - is laid in detail in the trailer. What happened to a little mystery?
