North Bound
I’m rather excited about tomorrow. I’ve got my ticket booked. Yes I’m heading up north for the first time since September and I’m really looking forward to it. Why am I going to Manchester? Well I still have many belongings up there in my father’s house that I’ve not been able to bring down here yet.
Most of my books are still up there and there are tons of other things like my force-feedback steering wheel, audio cassettes and videos. Perhaps more importantly I may be able to find my spare set of contact lenses. I’ve not been able to enjoy decent eyesight since I lost my regular contacts six months ago, I’m still waiting for an appointment with a local eye specialist.
There are two bonuses that make this week’s visit north even more exciting, Firstly, it will be the first time I’ll have seen my sister since she announced that she was expecting a baby. The second reason is that I’ve arranged to meet my friends who still live in the area in my old local pub. Perhaps it’s sad, but I’m genuinely excited about being able to sit in the George & Dragon and enjoy a few pints.
I travel up tomorrow evening, meaning I also get Friday off work. Unfortunately the only cheap train ticket I can get for the journey doesn’t get me to Manchester until just after 9pm, but at least I’ll be able to relax early the next day. But not for long, as I imagine I’m going to be very busy on Friday sorting out which belongings are going to come down here and which will end up in the nearest landfill.
My dad has very generously hired a van to carry my belongings in and we’ll be driving back down here to Essex on Saturday morning. This means dad can have a relaxing weekend visiting us down here, meet L’s folks and take a look at our lovely new flat. So a rather entertaining weekend beckons.
The only downside is that I won't see my beloved L for a couple of days and I know I'm going to find that rather difficult. She's already stealed herself to receive a rambling "I love you so much" drunken phone call after I return from the George & Dragon on Friday night.

My guess is that I won't be given a chance to miss him. But I will anyway.
Incidentally, rather than landfilling stuff, you can fill the front of the truck with the stuff you want, the back of the truck with stuff you don't want and take a route past a charity shop instead of the landfill site, since you won't consider my brainiac idea of going and doing a bootsale...
