New Toy for Harry

My beloved fiancée L, bless her cotton socks, has got a new job working in the Health & Safety department of a construction company. This means she is now looking over our flat as a deathtrap and my work area especially as a source of RSI related mutilation.
I’ve got one of those Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pros, I’ve had it for a few years and I love the split keyboard design. I find it very comfortable to type on. But the Health & Safety nazi says it isn’t good enough. She’s probably right, although it’s comfortable to type on the splayed design of the main alphabet keys means I do tend to hunch my shoulders in.
So I’ve been told I have to buy a regular keyboard. Now as a gamer I can’t just buy a regular £5 PC World keyboard can I? No, not really. I’m a gamer, I need to have something pointlessly cool and needlessly expensive.
And so what have I chosen? Well you can see it in the image above. This is the Saitek Eclipse keyboard and it features backlighting from some attractive blue LEDs. Yes it’s pretty pointless I suppose, but blue lights are cool aren’t they? It will also be rather handy for gaming in a darkened room – especially when I’m trying to find the flaps switch in Flight Simulator 2004 during a hairy night-time landing.
The keyboard is due to arrive tomorrow and my only concern is I didn’t check if it had any USB through-ports like my current keyboard. If not my mouse cable might not reach the back of my PC. Which means, yes you guessed it, I might have to invest in a new wireless laser mouse. Oh the horror.

However, I will not rest (much) until I see you with a decent chair. Your current perch is an office nightmare, what with missing one of its wheels and that very un-soothing plastic crunch when moved due to all the packing tape wrapped around the offending limb. If I can then miraculously convince you to get a desk of proper height so your arms bend 90 degrees at the elbow when you're typing, I'll feel like I've won the world cup myself...
/off to do some work again.../
The desk the monitor sits on is actually the right height. But unfortunately my monitor is sitting on it. If I were to get a flatscreen monitor though I would have room for my keyboard on there too.
I think that's probably the better fix than getting a new desk.
