Kenyan Xians Seek to Hide Evolution Evidence
Yet another story that proves that Christianity's greatest enemies are stupid Christians. Churches in Kenya are pressuring the country's national museum to hide Dr Richard Leakey important hominid finds, which rightly have pride of place there. Dr Leakey's collection includes the most complece Homo Erectus skeleton and bone specimens from Australopithecus Anamensis. The collection has brought tourists to Kenya and given the nation a strong reputation for its Great Rift Valley research.
However the evangelicals don't like this one bit. It's all a bit hear no evil, see no evil really. The group of Pentecostal churches want this world renowned collection of extremely important artefacts put in a back room somewhere. The evangelicals are seeking to hijack the museums survey of what visitors wish to see in a redesigned version of the Nairobi site.
"The Christian community here is very uncomfortable that Leakey and his group want their theories presented as fact," said Bishop Bonifes Adoyo, the head of Christ is the Answer Ministries, the largest Pentecostal church in Kenya. "Our doctrine is not that we evolved from apes, and we have grave concerns that the museum wants to enhance the prominence of something presented as fact which is just one theory."
Obviously Dr Leakey isn't best pleased by the fundie meddling. He said the churches opinions were the most outrageous comments he'd ever heard.
"The National Museums of Kenya should be extremely strong in presenting a very forceful case for the evolutionary theory of the origins of mankind. The collection it holds is one of Kenya's very few global claims to fame and it must be forthright in defending its right to be at the forefront of this branch of science. [The church's] theories are far, far from the mainstream on this. They cannot be allowed to meddle with what is the world's leading collection of these types of fossils."
