ITN Loves It

Have you been following the shocking murder of five women in Suffolk. There's a serial killer on the loose in the Ipswich area.

Tonight I caught some of the ITV News coverage of the grisly story, Oh and you could tell it was loving it. ITN had sent its Damien Day to cover it. Using his question from the Police conference, actually showing him asking it, even though it was a crap question and they could have shown some better and more informative moments.

It was typical ITN. Live link-ups for no good reason, emotionally charged scripts and the basest titillating approach to news. Do people really get their news from this trash? I know the BBC News is going downhill and infected with the pointless live link-up disease, but it's nowhere near as bad as this.

Yes and what headline did they run at 10.30pm last night...Diana (my favourite phrase is "She's dead, get over it"). Mind if you watched the comedy awards on ITV you'll be pleased to know that Oliver Stone on ITV2 uttered something about being pleased to be back in England as it reminded him of Jack the Ripper - it was one of those intake of breath moments when the auidence didn't know whether to laugh or sit in stoney slience.

Forgot to add that Sky News had Sir Menzies Campbell on - unfortunately under his name was in big letters "Suffolk Killer" - yet another example when you need to be careful about banner headlines and the pictures you see above.

I've mixed feelings about the Sky coverage of these events in Suffolk. On the one hand it's often as tabloid as the ITN efforts, but on the other Sky's depth of coverage and attention to detail sets a very high standard.

Maybe Ming did it? :)
