Well as you can see from this terrible photo (the batteries were about to run out so I had to be quick) I have finished building my new PC. It wasn't much hassle in the end and got it sorted in no time. I've still got lots of software to install though.

So I've gone from a 1.2 GHz T'Bird to an AMD64 3000 and it really flies. I've been very impressed with the performance in Flight Sim 2004, where I'm getting framerates of over 70fps with the VFR photo scenery.

As soon as Steam finishes downloading, I'll be able to test the system out with Half-Life 2.

After that worry of getting things up and running again it's all gone rather smoothly after all.
