Today marks a watershed in my life as a parent. For the first time I've taken a pair of scissors to our son's hair. His beautiful curly locks are no more. And while I've done a decent job of his first haircut (if you don't look at the back of his head) it's quite a sad day.
My good lady wife is already sad that our little munchkin's curls have gone and she's not even seen my efforts yet - the twins are having their afternoon nap.
But the truth is that our boy's hair was getting a little too shaggy and I think the summer heat wasn't helping either. He had a lovely head of curly hair but he was in danger of starting to look like a girl1 if we left it any longer before cutting his locks.
We're about to suffer a different problem with our little girl. In deciding to let her grow her fringe out when she's this young we will make things easier down the line, but there's surely going to be a period of months when she can't see where she's going and keeps bumping into things.
But I'm digressing. It's our son's bonce that's the focus for today. He'll be waking up soon and I'm rather nervous about the reaction from my good lady wife to my hair cutting antics.
Wish me luck.

1Though we seem to bump into far too many people who can't seem to see the difference between the twins. So we get stupid questions like "Are they identical?" no our son has a penis, "Which one is the girl?" the one dressed head to toe in pink rather than her brother in blue, it's not rocket science you know.
