...at how many people read my little blog. Surely you've something better to do with your day. But no, my stats hover around one thousand hits most days.
But what brings you here?
I know friends and family read the site, but that's only going to count for a handful of visits. So too the number of people who read this blog after having a nosy Google of my name to see who their curate was marrying. Again numbers there would be too insignificant to alter my stats.
There's the legacy of the tragic events that befell my family in early 2007. I'm a member of various online communities that supported me during a difficult time - and they would often visit this site and communicate with me using it. Many of those are likely to have bookmarked this place.
In many cases though I expect much of my readership comes from people who have no idea who I am. Instead they Google searched on some topic that brought them here.
One of the most popular searches, one that brings tens of people here every day is "dinosaurs didn't exist". I would hope this is down to sensible intelligent people who find the lies spread by creation "scientists" rather offensive. But I have a sneaking suspicion my site is often visited by the kind of crazy that thinks Satan put dinosaur bones in the ground to test the faithful.
I should welcome people from all backgrounds I guess, so with that in mind in future I may post some articles with words of less than two syllables for the backward types who cling to the idea that world is only 6000 years old.
What's really needed on the site is more silliness. One of the most popular search destinations here is an article I wrote about an episode of Bagpuss, a parody of Patrick O'Brian's books, a feature using the phrase frostbitten penis and something silly about Goblin meat puddings.
People are clearly voting with their mouse clicks. What they want is much more silliness (page views of my silly thing about bath toys prove this), so I will endeavour to provide a blend of the stuff you like the best - epic silliness and the baiting of fundamentalists.
