With your credit card, if you do get stung you'll get the money credited back almost straight away. It's happened me twice. The first time was for about £2,500, and more recently for a couple of hundred. They were different cards, Barclays and Egg, and both companies were super helpful.

Hence why I use a credit card most of the time these days and just pay it straight off at the end of the month.

Strange that it was a subscription service rather than a one off transaction though.

It's almost guaranteed someone will notcie an unrecognised subsctription coming off, and will cancel it. However a one off transaction could easily go through before anything was done about it.

It's certainly very odd. You'd think if someone was going to rip me off they'd do a better job of it.

They are increasingly charging you for paying by credit card, rather than debit card, online - which is very irritating. But if you have a Visa debit card then you are very happily bound by a similar agreement to a Visa credit card. As we found when our annual-payment broadband company went bust 2 months into the year...

I gave up my debit VISA card back in the mid 90s...due to somebody stealing the number (I never left carbon copies and this was before my internet shopping days started). Over $900.00US. I had to spend HOURS on the phone. I went into my bank and canceled out my old account and got a new one assigned.

I REFUSE to use my bank VISA debit (I have to have one for a bank ATM card). I just removed the sticker and refuse to use it. i use my regular credit card instead. They never have a problem.

The times that there has been somebody using them for calls in 3rd world countries...the bank computer calls me up and informs me! And they just deleted them from my account (happened in the late 90s/early 2000s).

to my knowledge, that has not happened since.

I would not use the debit card anymore if I were you. But then I am on a crusade against them...my family knows not to talk about their debit card usage in front of me...makes me very sore.
