Exodus: Progress Report
Well we made it over here to our new flat but it hasn't been without the occasional drama or crisis. But thank goodness we're away from that git that rented us the place at Rockleigh Court.
Our new place is gorgeous and not only that, the rent is cheaper than our previous place. It's a stone's throw from the railway line but thanks to double glazing you really wouldn't notice.
I'm enjoying my view from the computer desk over gardens and trees compared to my old view of a car park and the back of some shops.
The moving company we used weren't particularly good. They were loud, slow and continually took breaks. I really doubted they'd get everything here at all – or hear and working. But so far things seem fine.
I had a bit of panic when my computer wouldn't work properly when we got here. One drive, the one with all our documents, photos etc. on wasn't recognised. But it decided to work after ten minutes, probably just a problem due to being out in a cold van for a while.
BT cocked up our transfer of the phone line. Our phone should have been working yesterday but didn't work until an engineer visited early today. As it'll be a week before the broadband starts working again I realised I had better use dial-up.
Shame then that when I installed my old modem earlier it failed to work. And so I had to trudge into town to find somewhere selling a new one. £30 bloody quid at Dixons (aka Currys Digital) it cost me, but at least I can connect now and I know I'll be able to work next week, albeit not at full capacity.
Technical issues aside both L and I love our new home and we feel it's a much nice to location and house to bring our babies too when they are born in a few weeks time. It's extremely peaceful here away from the main high street, and I keep opening a window just to hear some birdsong otherwise all I have is the fan noise from the PC.
Right now we've still got loads of work to do. The flat is full of boxes that need unpacking and we still have to clean our old flat. I was supposed to do that this morning, but I've spent the last few hours trying to find some way of getting online and getting the phone line sorted.
At least the weekend is almost here though and my plan is very simple, to relax.
