Dinosaurs Didn't Exist
Sometimes you come across Christian Fundamentalism so lacking in anything like common sense and intellectual rigour that it becomes pure comedy rather than something to worry too much about.
Take charlesfinney.com (open in a new window), this site is so far off the chart that it's actually quite hard to be offended by it. Though I'm sure if you had a look around you'll probably find something suitably scary in there somewhere.
I particularly enjoyed the Evolution section explaining that dinosaurs never existed.
In my quest to find the truth about Dinosaurs, I discovered some interesting facts. Let me ask you a few questions:
Why do you believe in dinosaurs?
Have complete skeletons been found?
Were all the bones linked together?
Or were the bones just found in one area, and then joined up later? It is possible that the skeletons were constructed out of different animals. It is possible that the bones got bent into different shapes by the great weight of the dirt and rock above.
Some scientists have made complete pictures of dinosaurs based on just a single bone or tooth or leg. Half of all 'dinosaurs' found are under 15 feet in length. If crocodiles grew large, skeletons could have been mistaken for dinosaurs. They could have easily used a whale bone to construct a larger dinosaur.
Normally you'd expect me to be offended about a fellow Christian talking so much crap and making our faith look so intellectually bankrupt. But this site is so unintentionally hilarious I find it very hard to believe anyone would take it seriously.
Interestingly the site itself, despite it's fundie credentials doesn't actually seem to subscribe to Biblical Christian teaching. The author seems to think that to become a Christian is become sinless, which is a pretty severe misreading of the New Testament.
Still, it's worth visiting for a good laugh. Here's another choice morsel.
Aliens, ET's and UFO's: extraterrestrials: The X files, Hangar 18, Area 51, Roswell, New Mexico, and who can forget the very popular movies like: "ET", "Independence Day", "Men in Black", Aliens, UFo's, space people, martians. ET's are not what they appear to be, they are fallen angels; devils masquerading as "nice and friendly" space creatures.
Great isn't it? And did you know the band Earth, Wind & Fire were Satanic (open in a new window)?
It's not all fun and games. While the confessions page on the site is just pure genius it does link to a rather worryingly ill-considered page where the confessions of others are posted online including the phone numbers of children. Creepy.

CHOOSE, don't be a hypocrite.
(If its to do with the age of the earth as defined by the Bible, you are barking up the wrong tree).
Dinosaurs do not fit into the Bible. They don't have to. The Bible isn't a scientific explanation of the world, it is a history of various people's experience of God. It never mentions Dinosaurs because it was written by nomadic peoples who had never met one. Because dinosaurs existed millions of years before modern humans left the African plains and spread into the rest of the world.
The book of Genesis at the beginning of the Bible re-tells a creation myth that had been part of popular culture in the middle east for hundreds of years before it was codified in the bible. The important point is it says that God had a hand in creating the universe. My wife is an Anglican Priest and she would never tell you Genesis is a true scientific exmplanation of creation, she'd tell you it was a mythical retelling of ancient tales.
What Genesis doesn't do is explain the universe in scientific terms. It doesn't attempt to. It is unfair to expect the bible to do this. But it is also grossly wrong to use the book of Genesis to claim that this creation myth is the true way the universe was created rather than what we understand from modern cosmology.
The bible and science to not conflict because they don't discuss the same issues. Christians who try to tell you that the bible tells a truth of the creation of the universe that makes science a lie are frauds. They look at all the evidence around us about the way the universe is formed and say it is a lie - but these are God's fingerprints in creation - so they may as well be calling God a liar.
The universe was created billions of years ago. Dinosaurs roamed this planet for millions of years. And the human race is descended from other species of hominids. These things are facts. To argue against these is to show that someone can't be trusted to make rational decisions and therefore everything they say about anything else, including God, can't be trusted either.
Creation, the bible and science should be a none issue. Christians should be concerned with living good lives and spreading the teaching of Jesus. Making themselves look stupid because they deny scientific explanations of our natural world is a waste of time and a very poor witness.
Michelle, I hate to say it but even though religion is very healthy for society (otherwise we'd be shooting anyone we'd be mad at) its good to have an open mind, but not so open your brain falls out. Your pastor is going by what the bible said, which man wrote to explain the unexplainable. Just because its not there, doesn't make it not true [like harry said] You never have to believe in something because of fear. Make interpretations for yourself, because again, like harry said, its unfair to expect people of the biblical ages to know what they were doing. Hell, the pictures of the angels in these shiny craft things (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it was revelations, that it was in, I think I spelled it wrong too, lol) that looked kinda like floating Gazebos could have been ufos, but angels and things like that were all people thought that came from the sky. And shes only speaking through them. I'm not saying shes completely brainwashed and hallucinative [prob. spelled that wrong too, haha] Because there are some things that make sense and I can see why someone could believe it, believe me, I hope the people in my life have gone to a better place, and didn't just rot in the ground, but beyond that, I listen to others Ideas and make interpretations for myself and the very FIRST thing I do when I decide if its right or wrong is take it as it is, and do NOT let fear over power a thought.
And joey, in a way your right, but only to a certain extent. Time can be jumped and munipulated. Scientists actually know for a fact it can be jumped and compressed now, its just they don't know how. Its kinda like when your a baby, you understand what mommy meant, but you couldn't say it.
Yet.
Time is just a way we measure events going by. But thats also just how WE measure it. The aztec calendar is different then ours, but that doesn't mean time itself went faster or slower because of it. Events that happened back then wouldn't look like they were in a "fast forward" motion if looked at now. Time is an extraordinary thing, its inevitable, but then again, we may find ways to slow down the inevitability. My mom's bf who is a Mensa (iq 160-up), says theres a possibility from what einstein said, that if you "Travel through time" you may actually age slower. Not sure if thats physically or just "getting to the dying age", but I'm not sure...you would think your body itself would have the "internal death clock" and age just as fast, bc events, again, happen to you at the same pace. Maybe not outside events, but,...anyway... I hope I helped someone... haha! Btw..sorry about my atrocious spelling and grammar, its hard to type perfectly right on the Wii. lol
