Compassionate Employers Do Exist
There are just 24 days left of our time in Essex now - three quarters of our little family will then be heading westwards to be closer to the fourth member.
I've never really put deep roots down here and it won't be very difficult to move. But there's lots of work to do before we go - I need to get rid of so much stuff and pack the items I'll be taking with us.
And we're still not certain where we'll be living yet - but we have a plan that may work - it just requires the help, advice, prayers and understanding of others of the issues involved.
What are those issues?
Without the twins the move would be a lot simpler, it wouldn't really matter on the arrangements that much at all.
But we've formed a fledgling, if unconventional, little family - one with two parents but two households. But we hope and trust the issues will be resolved and the best solution will work out for us.
My main thoughts though, and the reason for this particular blog post, have been on work. Until recently looking after Patrick and Kitty was tough - but still enabled me to work. Over recent weeks though they've become little people who need much more attention from us.
That makes work harder - but I'm getting pretty good at working in the gaps their more relaxed state or naps allow me.
However the next few weeks are going to be rather disrupted. There's the small matter of packing up all our stuff here, getting rid of lots of stuff too, then moving westward by 30+ miles by September 14th. Easier said than done.
This morning I explained all these issues to my employers and was gratified to be given so much encouragement, understanding and support. The next few weeks are going to be ones of disruption where keeping on top of regular work will be impossible.
The company I work for has demonstrated how compassionate employers support their staff as much as needed in times like this - making the prospect of the move less daunting and one where I don't really need to worry about work issues. I needn't worry when asking for as much time off as needed to settle our little family in its new home - the company will allow me all that's needed. God bless 'em.
It's really going to take is some hard work. And lots of it. There's a certain amount of exhaustion being suffered by us at the moment which makes the tasks ahead difficult - illness and work have taken its toll on us.
Hurrah then for the forthcoming vacation, nearly a full week away from the hustle and bustle of daily life that should leave us ready and able to tackle the major task of getting our little family closer together - which will mean only a small further move following April's wedding bells.
