I agree (mostly) with what you say about this. I wonder if the problem is down to a talent vacuum, which may give rise to: a) the number of channels available having to spread any talent more thinly between the lot of them, producing mediocre programming, b) the lack of standards in spoken english - particularly within childrens tv where slang seems to rule the airwaves and pop culture dominates, dumbing down the educational output to the future talents of the country and c) too much harking back to "golden ages" and filling up the tv schedule with so many "best of" or "100 greatest / scariest / funniest" programmes that there's little creativity happening to produce more quality items.

Whilst I haven't really got an answer (sorry!) to this, my personal view is that too many people are too busy watching telly to actually come up with anything new, or to get out there and do anything newsworthy that doesn't involve anything within the current media-onslaught and find something that isn't so "tried and tested." However if that actually happened, probably the moguls funding such programmes would be too scared to fund it.

Look at tonight's schedule from 6pm onwards there is indeed nothing (and we pay a licence fee for this - mind BBC radio is pretty good). Tonight you could be subjected to soap operas, c**p like Airline, Judge John Deed, Tonight with Trevor McDoughnut (he only introduces and closes the programme - I could do that) and Chimp Week (I'm guessing it won't be half as gripping as Big Cat Diary). Maybe it is a plan to get us all talking to each other, or pro creating?

Just heard on the radio about George Galloway lapping milk out of someone's hand whilst pretending to be a cat - has BB turned into some sort of f etish programme?

Agree totally with all comments.TV is shabby, shoddy, repetitive twaddle of no value on either an entertainment or informative level.Dumbness peesonified by way of soap/quiz/reality nonsense. Not to mention the ease of filling schedules with sport, primarily football.Endless chat shows with the same guests flogging a film/book /new series as a justification to appear.Endless political discussion programmes, where one hear's the repetitive slanging match.Helps to fill the schedule. What happened to Tv as a means to educate & inform.Series that churn out the same guff each week, when one programme would cover the rubbish. The same progeammes scheduled year-in,.year-out because it is easy.fodder.These media-mupperts do a dis-service to a once great nation.
